What is Great Day of Service (GDOS)?
A day when South Rock Christian Church will go out in teams to be the hands and feet of Jesus to our community! Painting, landscaping, carpentry, childcare, food preparation, prayer groups, hauling and so much more!
There will NOT be normal weekend services on Sept 26 and 27. Sunday morning, EVERYONE will meet at 9:00 am for a short worship service - songs, devotion, and communion together. Then you will be dismissed to your project site. You will work at that site until the work is complete or your project leader dismisses you for lunch. Lunch will be served at the Powerhouse (302 N Georgie) from 11:30 - 1:30. ALL are welcome including the people you are serving that day!
For GDOS 2018 we served over 81 different projects with over 902 people! Lives were changed, relationships built, and Jesus was at the front and center of it all!
We are looking forward to GDOS 2020!
Who do we serve?
We are looking to serve anyone who cannot otherwise do the work for themselves. Elderly neighbors, single parents, families with a deployed parent, or anyone who may not be able to get to the project otherwise. We also serve schools, parks, and other community spaces to help Derby and the surrounding communities. Our general rule is the homeowners must live within 15 minutes of the church. We don't want to spend the entire work time traveling to the site. However, we are open to special projects at distances further away.
